"Players do all they can to get here to the U.S. to play ball and will sometimes fall prey to people with twisted motives,” said the Los Angeles Angels’ Albert Pujols. “They become victims of exploitation."

Pujols came from the Dominican Republic to fulfill his baseball dreams. He won two World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals and became one of only four players to amass 600 home runs and 3,000 hits.

Now, Pujols and his wife, Deidre, fight human trafficking through their organization, Strike Out Slavery.

GOD IS USINGAN ANGEL’S PLATFORM
TO REACH THE WORLD
"God has used my platform in baseball to reach the masses through Strike Out Slavery," he said. "With the respect and honor that He has given, He has helped to bring this issue to the offices of Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association."

Both organizations combined to pledge $500,000.

Beyond raising money,
Strike Out Slavery partners with Open Gate International to rescue victims, build their self-confidence and teach vocational skills.

"I love culinary arts and business, so I created a culinary program where we
incorporate life skills and culinary arts to reach the whole person, who most likely comes from a traumatic background," Deidre said. "To date, we have graduated 150 students and have put people on the path to employment.”

WORLDWIDE
"Miracles have happened all over the world," Deidre said. "We have helped people who were living in their cars move into apartments. We have seen people not just in the U.S. but in other countries like India, Moldova, Mexico and Cambodia,
coming from poverty and trafficking and become prosperous and change their families’ lives."

Deidre founded both Open Gate International and Strike Out Slavery in 2016, when she experienced a call to confront human trafficking.

"I felt the Lord giving me a commission to understand the issues of human trafficking," she said. "I was not in that space at all, but His signs were very significant and I was mature enough in my faith to respond."

Deidre responded by visiting a Mexican organization, El Pozo de Vida (The Well of Life), that provides safe houses and job training for female victims.
IMPACT"Immediately, I was locked in to know more, and before I knew it, I was visiting organizations all over the world," she said. "Later that year, I had to sit with the Lord and ask what he needed me to do with all that I learned."

When his wife founded Strike Out Slavery and Open Gate international, Albert immediately provided support.

"After God called my wife into the issues of human trafficking," he said, "I jumped on board to also know more."

Other players have joined the fight.
THE PUJOL'S FAMILY"This campaign has opened the eyes of my fellow players and their families," Albert said.
"They are educating themselves
so they can help the public also know
the truths of this issue."

The Love of God

A true story of Godspeed Magazine's 8-year journey doing God's will. Between 2008 and 2012 my life was in shambles, I lost my stepdad, helplessly watched my business implode, underwent a painful divorce, and lost custody of my only son (at the time). The Lord called me into His will in 2012 when I was recovering from major surgery by saying there would be a movement centered around a digital publication He called GODSPEED Magazine (GSM).
